WOMEN'S SOCCER BESTED BY WILMINGTON, 2-1

BOX SCORE

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Even an inspired second half that saw Capial outshoot Wilmington 17-5 and a goal by senior Molly Sheils (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville HS) was not enough as the Crusader women's soccer team fell to the Quakers 2-1.

After a couple of quality scoring chances in the early minutes for Capital were sent away by the Wilmington defense, the Quakers opened the scoring in the 12th minute.  Erica Sayler blasted a shot from 25 yards out that beat the keeper to the top right corner of the goal for a 1-0 WC advantage.

Then in the second half, Jenna Curcio took a long pass by Kristen Elam from the midfield and beat the keeper one-on-one to the top shelf in the 54th minute for a 2-0 Quaker lead.

Shelis responed in the 72nd minute by hauling in classmate Kaylee Phillips' (Watkins, Ohio/Watkins Memorial HS) corner kick and getting her shot past Wilmington keeper Maria Larson to keep CU in contention at 2-1.

Despite even more pressure applied by the Crusader offense that included two shots that hit the Quaker's top post, Capital could not register the match-tying point.

The Crusaders' improved play in the second half included recording five corner kicks (compared to one by the Quakers) and netting eight shots on goal against two for Wilmington.

Capital resumes its OAC schedule on Saturday with a doubleheader at Marietta.  The women take the field at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men at 3:00 p.m.
