VOLLEYBALL HANGS WITH #19 HEIDELEBERG IN THREE-SET LOSS

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Homestanding Capital played point for point with #19 Heidelberg, but fell in three sets (23-25, 22-25, 23-25) in an Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball showdown on Saturday at the Capital Center.

Capital (15-10, 4-1 OAC) held Heidelberg (21-4, 6-0 OAC) to a .220 team hitting percentage behind a defense that had three Crusaders post 12 digs or more. 

Senior libero Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) led all players with 20 digs. Classmate Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) and freshman Shannon Quinn (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg HS) followed with 13 and 12 digs respectively.

Zumberger also finished with two service aces and 30 assists for an offense that was led by fellow seniors Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) and Jennifer Fekpe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS).  Hostetler tallied 10 kills, six digs and four blocks while Fekpe had nine kills and two blocks.

Freshman Leanne Schaefer (Verona, Wisc./Verona HS) added two service aces, six kills and two blocks for the Crusaders, which fall into a three-way tie for second place in the OAC standings.

Capital returns to action on Tuesday night with a trip to Marietta for a OAC match that begins at 7 p.m.
