McCARTHY SETS OAC SCORING RECORDS IN 3-0 WIN AT MARIETTA

BOX SCORE

MARIETTA, Ohio - Senior Steven McCarthy became the top offensive player in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer history in Capital's 3-0 victory at Marietta on Saturday.

The 2007 All-American became the OAC's all-time career leader in goals (64) and points (145) with a goal and an assist on the afternoon.  McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) also leads the OAC with 19 goals and 44 points this season, which are both career highs.

CU (12-4-0, 4-1-0 OAC) had a 19-6 lead in shots in a physical game that saw a red and yellow card handed out to Marietta in the first half.  Following the red card in the 34th minute, Capital got on the board as sophomore Daniel McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) converted on a penalty kick for 1-0 lead that lasted until the halftime intermission.

Steven McCarthy then fired a shot that rebounded off the post and to the foot of Ian Warmbrodt (Wadsworth, Ohio/Copley HS) who finished the scoring play in the 55th minute.

McCarthy then added the final goal in the 77th minute as he beat a defender one-on-one and then put it past the keeper for the record-setting goal.

Capital returns to action at Baldwin-Wallace in a OAC matchup which begins at 7:00 p.m.
