MARIETTA, Ohio - A pair of goals in the first and second half propelled the Capital women's soccer team to a 4-1 OAC victory at Marietta.
Junior Kaylee Phillips (Watkins, Ohio/Watkins Memorial HS) and senior Katie Robinson (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City HS) scored for the Crusaders in the first half, while sophomore Tara Zimmer (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia-Butler HS) and senior Molly Sheils (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville HS) netted second half goals for CU.
Capital improved to 9-5-3 on the season and 3-2 in OAC play, while outshooting Marietta 17-10 (including an 11-5 shots on goal edge), with junior goalie Rose Bussey (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City HS) getting credit for the victory.
Phillips scored in the matches' first minute, scoring off a Kellie Gustin (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro HS) cross in Marietta's box.
After permitting a Pioneer goal less than four minutes later, junior Natasha Ballard's (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg HS) corner kick lead to a Robinson header for a goal for a 2-1 Crusader lead in the match's 16th minute. For the match, CU held an 8-1-corner kick advantage.
After Zimmer scored when her shot deflected off a Marietta defender and into the net in the 77th minute, Sheils capped off the scoring with her unassisted goal in the 82nd minute.
The Purple and White will be back in action against Baldwin Wallace at home Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
