BOX SCORE MARIETTA, Ohio - A hot start and a late rally combined to be enough for visiting Capital in a 3-2 (25-21, 25-11, 21-25, 19-25, 15-11) victory at Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball match on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Crusaders (16-10, 5-1 OAC) remained in a three-way tie for second place in the OAC standings. The homestanding Pioneers fell to 16-9 overall and 3-4 in OAC action.
Senior Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) became the latest member of CU's 1,000-Kill Club with a team-high 17 kills while hitting at a .317 clip to go along with eight digs and one block. The 2008 All-OAC selection now has 1,013 career kills in only 2,513 attempts while a .301 career hitting percentage.
Sophomore Courtney Diller (Columbus Grove, Ohio/Columbus Grove HS) followed closely with a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs as one of four Crusaders with double-digits in digs. Overall, Capital out hit Marietta .276 to .218.
Senior Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) led all players with 27 digs and two service aces.
Classmate Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) added 16 digs and two service aces of her own while dishing out 44 assists.
Freshman Shannon Quinn (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg HS) finished with 12 digs for the Crusaders which will return home for a Senior Day Tri-Match on Saturday with Otterbein and Westminster. Capital will play host to Otterbein at 11 a.m. followed by a match between Otterbein and Westminster at 1 p.m. CU will then close out the day against WC at 3 p.m.
