BOX SCORE NEW CONCORD, Ohio - Visiting Capital rallied from a 10-5 gap in the fifth set and had two match points before Muskingum scored the final three points of the match to send the Crusaders to a 2-3 (25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 17-25, 16-18) Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball loss on Tuesday night.
Capital (16-13) is now alone in fourth place in the OAC standings with a 5-3 conference record following its fourth straight five-set match. The Crusaders have already clinched a berth in the OAC Quarterfinals and can host next Tuesday's match with either a win over #7 Ohio Northern or an Otterbein loss to Muskingum on Saturday.
CU took the match to the distance as a result of four Crusaders tallying double-digits in digs while Capital also posted a 9.0 to 4.0 lead in blocks.
Senior Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) led all players with a double-double of 24 kills and 11 digs. She hit at a .373 clip with three service aces and three blocks on the night.
Freshman Shannon Quinn (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg HS) led all players with 25 digs to go along with two service aces.
Senior libero Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) followed closely with 22 digs and three service aces of her own for the Crusaders.
Classmate Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) became the first setter in Capital history to record 3,000 assists and 1,000 digs in a career as she dished out 39 assists and collected 15 digs on the evening while posting a match-high five service aces. She now has the second most career assists in CU history with 3,030 to go along with 1,037 career digs and the third most service aces at 152.
Capital will remain on the road to face #7 Ohio Northern on Saturday in a 1 p.m. match to close out the regular season.
