The Capital University senior soccer duo of
Molly Sheils and
Josh Thaboune were each named to their respective ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Friday.
The same duo earned OAC All-Academic Team honors last season and were honored for these awards this fall following a vote conducted amongst CoSIDA members in District IV which consists of Sports Information Directors from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
Sheils, a midfielder from Centerville, Ohio, is third on the team in goals and fourth in scoring this season with four goals and nine points respectively. She has tallied three game winning goals while starting all 19 matches this season. Last fall, Sheils was a NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team pick as well as a NSCAA All-East Region Scholar-Athlete Third Team honoree. She also took home and All-Ohio Second Team award in 2008 and has been on the All-OAC First Team for three consecutive seasons. Sheils is a psychology major with a 3.86 cumulative GPA.
Thaboune, a forward from Bexley, Ohio, is fourth on the men's roster in both goals and points scored with three and eight respectively while appearing in 12 of the team's first 19 matches this season. In 2008, Thaboune was an All-OAC Second Team pick for the Crusaders after taking home Honorable Mention All-OAC recognition in 2007. Thaboune is a communication major with a 3.56 GPA.
The Capital women's and men's soccer teams will both close out their respective regular season schedules on Saturday with matches against rival Otterbein. The Crusader women (12-5-2, 6-2-0 OAC) will play at #15 Otterbein beginning at Noon in a match that can be followed with Live Stats. Then the CU men (14-4-1, 6-1-1 OAC) will host their Senior Day against OC beginning at 3:00 p.m. in a contest that can be followed with FREE Live Stats, Video and Audio at www.CapitalCrusaders.net.
