Capital University senior defensive lineman
Brian Porter was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team following a vote by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Porter, a native of Mason, Ohio, holds a 3.53 cumulative GPA as a computer science major. The 5-19, 265-pound defensive tackle has tallied 18 tackles this season including a team-best 5.0 sacks. Overall, 15 of his 18 tackles have been solo stops for the senior, which has started all eight games this season.
The Crusader defense is second in the OAC and 18th in NCAA in rushing defense as it has allowed just 74.13 yards per game rushing so far this season. CU also leads the OAC and is 10th in NCAA in sacks (26). The Crusaders have surrendered the second fewest number of first downs (141) and third fewest points allowed (22.13 ppg) in the OAC. CU is also third in turnover margin (+4) and is fourth in the OAC with 15 takeaways in eight games.
