VOLLEYBALL DUO EARN ESPN THE MAZAGINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

A pair of seniors from the Capital University volleyball team were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams on Thursday following a vote amongst members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Allison Hostetler was a Second Team pick while Jenna Zumberger was a Third Team selection.

Hostetler, a 5-11 middle blocker from Dalton, Ohio, finished her career as one of the top middle blockers in Crusader history.  She ranked second all-time in sets played (467), third in solo blocks (175) and total blocks (502) as well as fourth in block assists (327) in Capital history.  Hostetler also surpassed the 1,000-kill plateau while finishing as a .300 career hitter.  This season, she played in the fifth most sets of any Crusader ever (122) while ranking among the OAC leaders in blocks, hitting percentage and kills.  Hostetler is an early childhood education major with a 3.72 cumulative GPA who plans on teaching at the kindergarten or first grade level following graduation.

Zumberger, a 5-5 setter from DeGraff, Ohio, was the only player in Crusader history to record 3,000 assists and 1,000 digs in a career.  She finished second in CU history with 3,083 career assists while also tallying 1,062 career digs.  Zumberger also ranked fourth all-time in career service aces (153) and sixth in sets played (454).  The season, she surpassed the 1,000-assist mark for just the fifth time in Capital history as her 1,098 assists were the fourth most all-time.  She also played in 122 sets, which is the fifth most in CU history while ranking among the OAC leaders in assists and service aces.  A psychology major with a 3.75 cumulative GPA, Zumberger plans on attending graduate school after finishing her degree at Capital.

Capital finished fifth in the OAC standings in 2009 with a 5-4 conference record and a 16-14 mark overall.  The Crusaders boasted a roster of five seniors including a 1,000-career kill player, 1,000-career dig performer and a player with 3,000 career assists and 1,000 career digs.  CU made its 19th appearance in the OAC Tournament before falling in the Quarterfinal Round.
