New Jersey 1971 from Elliott Erwitt: Dog Dogs, showing this month at Capital University's Schumacher Gallery Capital University’s Schumacher Gallery invites central Ohio photographers and dog-lovers to enjoy unique perspectives of man’s best friend captured by famed American photojournalist Elliott Erwitt at the upcoming exhibition Elliott Erwitt: Dog Dogs Friday, Feb. 12, through Wednesday, March 31.

Photography and dog enthusiasts are invited to be part of the exhibition by submitting their favorite dog photos for inclusion in Capital Canines, which will show alongside Dog Dogs. The accompanying exhibition will feature a virtual gallery of favorite Fido photographs submitted by community members through the social networking site Flickr. Capital Canines also will feature framed photographs submitted by Capital employees and students.

To submit photos, people should go to Flickr.com, log in, and upload their dog photos. Tag them with “capitalcanines,” and they’ll be added to the Capitalcanines galleries . Then they can come see their photos digitally displayed as part of Capital's virtual gallery at the Dog Dogs opening reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at The Schumacher, located on the top floor of the library on Capital’s campus, 1 College and Main, in Bexley

Organized by Magnum Paris and art2art Circulating Exhibitions, in New York, Elliott Erwitt: Dog Dogs includes 65 black-and-white photographs taken by Erwitt throughout the world between the years of 1946 and 2000. This exhibition leaves no question about Erwitt’s love of man’s best friend.

He sees the dignity of the ankle-high Chihuahua; the anxiety of the homeless hound; the smugness of the adored dachshund, sitting on its chaise lounge in the noonday sun; the patience of the pompommed poodle; and the matchless joy of the homely, but well-loved pug.

Erwitt is one of the masters of 20th century photography. He has been recognized with solo exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, The Chicago Art Institute, and the Smithsonian. His images have appeared in such publications as Life, Look, and Colliers, and he has published numerous books, feature films, and documentaries.

Erwitt is known for his acute observations of the everyday world and his unmistakable style and wit. Anyone who loves dogs and people will enjoy this exhibition, as will anyone who appreciates precise mastery of photography.
