Technology at Capital University
Technology is the key to staying connected, informed and productive throughout the academic year. Capital students use technology to streamline important tasks. They can:
- Register for classes and check grades using WebAdvisor (Capital's 24/7 Web access to data)
- Complete class projects with the help of computer labs and multimedia equipment
- Keep in touch with family and friends with high-speed internet access
- Connect to Capital's technical resources and services through Capital's Web portal
Read on to learn about all the equipment and services we have to offer.
Help Desk
Is there a technical glitch with a Capital-owned computer, phone or other piece of equipment? You can rely on the help desk for answers to your questions, concerns and problems.
We want to make it as convenient as possible for you to get the help you need. Capital students can contact the help desk by e-mail or phone or in person by visiting our offices in the basement of Blackmore Library.
Do you have software-related questions? We can answer them. But you may also want to sign up for free training sessions in Word, Excel and other programs you use frequently for class.
If it's your laptop or personal computer that's acting up, we're limited in what we can do. But we'll gladly give you the names of reasonably priced and reputable outside vendors.
Computer Labs
Capital's IT department maintains computer labs in several locations on the main campus:
- The basement of the Campus Center
- The basement of Blackmore Library
- Each one of Capital's 6 residence halls
Our computer labs contain a variety of Windows XP, Macintosh X and Sun computers that are replaced, on average, every 4 years. Most of these computers are loaded with software that enables you to:
- Create text documents, spreadsheets and presentations
- Connect to the Web and send e-mails and text messages
- Burn your own CDs
- Design and produce illustrations, maps, charts, graphs and scientific renderings
- Design and produce presentation graphics and documents in electronic formats
- Create and publish your own logo and Web page
There are also computer labs exclusively for nursing, education and computational studies students. To learn about the resources they have to offer, contact these departments directly.
Wireless Access
You need to study where you feel inspired ... and that's not always in the computer lab. So Capital has created two on-campus wireless hot spots: one in the Cru Club and the other in Blackmore Library (all floors).
Planning on bringing your own laptop or desktop computer to campus? We've drawn up some general recommendations for computer specs.
