Capital University senior defensive lineman Brian Porter was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team following a vote by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Two teams fighting to join the NCAA Tournament discussion as the season winds down will square off on Saturday in Columbus. NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The #16 Capital Crusader football team tallied nearly 500 yards of total offense and recorded seven sacks in a 35-7 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Muskingum on Saturday.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Sophomore placekicker Garrett Bennington picked up his second consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Special Team Player of the Week award on Monday after a perfect kicking day to help nationally-ranked Capital defeat Marietta, 37-13.

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The #25 Capital Crusaders used a big-strike offense and a stingy defense to secure a 37-21 Ohio Athletic Conference football victory at Wilmington on Saturday night. With the win, CU remained perfect on the season at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in OAC action.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Visiting Capital scored on its first three offensive possessions and tallied 487 yards of total offense as the Crusaders defeated Adrian, 31-21 in Saturday’s opener of the 2009 football season.

While he may never catch up to the incorporable Phelps, sophomore Erik Barenwald did spend his summer swimming in the local neighborhood lake in preparation for his upcoming year of playing football and throwing for the track team. Barenwald talked about his dual sport career amongst other things with Sports Information Assistant Bryan DeArdo in the latest "I WILL" interview.

CANTON, Ohio - Seemingly every coach and player who spoke at the OAC Football Media Day on Tuesday expressed their enthusiasm about not only their team, but also the overall strength of the conference.

CANTON, Ohio – The Capital University football was picked fourth by the media and fifth by the coaches in the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Polls released Tuesday at the annual OAC Media Day hosted at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Capital University football team will have a new helmet design to show off at the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Media Day hosted at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton on Tuesday, August 11.

After injuries to key players led to a disappointing 5-5 season in 2008, the Capital University football team is healthy and motivated to start another run of NCAA playoff appearances in 2009.

MINNEAPOLIS – The Capital University football team was listed among the top teams in the country in the D3football.com Top 25 Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday.

Capital University was well represented on the 2009 OhioCollegeFootball.com Preseason All-Ohio Teams that were released Thursday. CU had seven players on the list led by All-Second Team Offensive picks Kyle Koblinski and Matt White. The duo is joined by Honorable Mention selections Cory Dutcher, Sam Jacobs, Marty Assmann, Evan Blake and Brad Pickens.

Safety Brad Pickens has been one of the main pillars of a Capital team that has twice advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs since 2006. Sports information assistant Bryan DeArdo sat down with Pickens to discuss who inspired his work ethic, this upcoming football season, and which Cedar Point roller coaster is his favorite.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University head football coach Jim Bickel announced Friday that Crusader assistant Henry Stanford will be promoted to offensive coordinator effective immediately. Stanford, who is also the recruiting coordinator for CU football, takes over for Manny Matsakis who was hired as the running backs coach of the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

While many people try to hurdle through obstacles, Capital senior punter Ton Gantner kicks over them. Gantner has overcome his share of injury setbacks and has become a leader on the Crusader football squad. Gantner talked with sports information assistant Bryan DeArdo about his obstacles, the life of a punter, and what it is like to play both high school and college football with quarterback Marty Assmann.

Middle linebacker Matt Heagen is one of the remaining links from the 2006 Crusader football team that at one point was ranked third best in the nation. Now a senior who has recently overcome a knee injury, Heagen talked with sports information assistant Bryan DeArdo about how he and the team will look to link together to pursue a national championship.
