PORTER NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SECOND TEAM
Capital University senior defensive lineman Brian Porter was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team following a vote by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

While he may never catch up to the incorporable Phelps, sophomore Erik Barenwald did spend his summer swimming in the local neighborhood lake in preparation for his upcoming year of playing football and throwing for the track team. CU had seven players on the list led by All-Second Team Offensive picks Kyle Koblinski and Matt White. The duo is joined by Honorable Mention selections Cory Dutcher, Sam Jacobs, Marty Assmann, Evan Blake and Brad Pickens.

Safety Brad Pickens has been one of the main pillars of a Capital team that has twice advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs since 2006. Sports information assistant Bryan DeArdo sat down with Pickens to discuss who inspired his work ethic, this upcoming football season, and which Cedar Point roller coaster is his favorite.
STANFORD PROMOTED TO OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR AT CAPITAL
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University head football coach Jim Bickel announced Friday that Crusader assistant Henry Stanford will be promoted to offensive coordinator effective immediately. Stanford, who is also the recruiting coordinator for CU football, takes over for Manny Matsakis who was hired as the running backs coach of the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

While many people try to hurdle through obstacles, Capital senior punter Ton Gantner kicks over them. Gantner has overcome his share of injury setbacks and has become a leader on the Crusader football squad. Gantner talked with sports information assistant Bryan DeArdo about his obstacles, the life of a punter, and what it is like to play both high school and college football with quarterback Marty Assmann.

Middle linebacker Matt Heagen is one of the remaining links from the 2006 Crusader football team that at one point was ranked third best in the nation. Now a senior who has recently overcome a knee injury, Heagen talked with sports information assistant Bryan DeArdo about how he and the team will look to link together to pursue a national championship.
