Follow These Six Steps

Capital students should follow these six steps to ensure that the most aid is available to them. To learn more about financial aid visit the U.S. Department of Education's Web site.

1. Apply for a PIN

You can apply for a PIN online.

A PIN from the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) is required if you are going to complete your financial aid applications online.

2. Complete the FAFSA

You should complete the FAFSA online for before March 1.

By completing The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) you will be considered for all federal, state and Capital University assistance. More information on the FAFSA is available.

3. Verification/Quality Assurance

After Capital has received the results of your FAFSA, we will review the information to determine if additional documents are needed from you. This is done to ensure the accuracy of the information you reported.

Please respond quickly if you are selected for verification/quality assurance as the process could hold up your financial aid eligibility. If the process has completed before the start of a new term, you may have to use your own personal funds to pay for that term's tuition, fees and books.

4. Complete Entrance Counseling for Federal Loans

Students receiving either Stafford or Perkins loans must complete loan entrance counseling online to ensure that you understand the conditions of your loan before you accept the funds.

The federal government requires schools to provide you with information regarding your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower, and requires you to acknowledge that you have received and understand the information before any disbursement of loan funds can be made.

More information on Stafford Loans and Perkins Loans is available.

5. Sign the Master Promissory Note

Students receiving either Stafford or Perkins loans must sign a Master Promissory Note. This Note is your pledge to repay your federal loans.

  • Sign the Stafford Promissory Note.
  • You must sign a Perkins Master Promissory Note when you arrive on campus before the first day of class.
