Mark Lochstampfor

Mark Lochstampfor, Professor of Music, is instructor of Music Technology, Composition, Music Theory, Keyboard, Rock Studies and the History of Rock & Roll. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME), and on the Executive Board of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI). He also serves as the National Secretary/Treasurer of Pi Kappa Lambda.

He has presented papers at conferences and workshops across the globe, including the Ohio Music Educator's Conference, TI:ME, the International Association for Jazz Education Conference, and the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition. Lochstampfor's presentations have represented the broad spectrum of his expertise, ranging from Attentional performance asymmetries among skilled musicians to a paper entitled, Stylistic transformation from cool jazz to fusion in the music of Miles Davis. Lochstampfor's other literary contributions may be found in Music! Its Role and Importance in Our Lives (Glenco/McGraw-Hill Inc., 1999).

As a keyboardist he has played in a number of ensembles, focusing on contemporary compositions and American musical idioms such as rock and jazz. He continues to be an active church organist and choral director, while also pursuing his composition interests. Many of his musical compositions reflect his performance interests and experiences, often blending influences of jazz, rock, gospel, electronic technology, and 20th Century "art" compositions. Lochstampfor's compositions have been published by Augsburg Fortress Publishing.

Lochstampfor received degrees in Music Theory from The Ohio State University (Ph.D., M.A.), and in Composition from Ohio University (B.M.).
