Gail Lehto Zugger, is associate professor of clarinet at the Capital University Conservatory of Music in Columbus, Ohio, a position she has held since 1999.
An active clinician and performer, Dr. Zugger has presented the clinic “Clarinet 101: Simple Steps for Improving your Clarinet Section” at state and regional MENC conferences in Providence (RI), Valley Forge (PA), Minneapolis (MN), Peoria (IL), Bismarck (ND) and Cincinnati (OH). She has appeared as soloist with the Capital/Bexley Community Orchestra, Westerville (OH) Community Band, Westerville Symphony Orchestra, Capital University Symphonic Winds and Columbus Youth Symphonic Band. Zugger has performed in recital at Old Dominion University, Eastern Michigan University, Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, Miami University and at the 1998 International Clarinet Association conference. She has given master classes throughout central Ohio and in Texas, Michigan, Louisiana and Wisconsin. During summers, she teaches at the International Music Camp near Dunseith (ND).
Zugger is currently principal clarinet of the Newark Granville (OH) Symphony Orchestra and second clarinet of the Ashland (OH) Symphony Orchestra. She has played with the Columbus, Roanoke (VA), Richmond (IN), Wintergreen (VA) and Lancaster (OH) symphony orchestras and worked with such noted popular artists as James Taylor, The Moody Blues and Joel Grey. Zugger is a regular contributor to The Clarinet, the quarterly publication of the International Clarinet Association.
Dr. Zugger holds a bachelor's degree in clarinet performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a master's degree and doctorate in performance from The Ohio State University. Her former teachers include James Pyne, Russell Dagon, and Jack Snavely. Her hobbies include running, having finished 5 marathons and 18 half marathons, traveling and cooking.
