James Stokes

James Stokes is the Capital University trumpet professor, trumpet ensemble conductor, Capital Brass Quintet director, and a coach for small brass ensembles.  He holds a master’s degree in performance from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s degree in music education from Indiana University. His teachers have included Keig Garvin, James Stokes, Sr., William Adam and Richard Burkart.  He is formerly co-principal trumpet of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and Ohio Valley Symphony Orchestra.  

James performs regularly with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, the CAPA Broadway Show Series and many other ensembles of the Central Ohio region and across the US.  He is an Artist/Performer/Adjudicator for the National Trumpet Competition and the current chair of the Orchestral Competition for the 2006 International Trumpet Guild Conference.  He is a member of the Capital Brass Quintet and the founding member of the Cathedral Brass Ensemble. James is a clinician for the Vincent Bach Corporation.
