Dr. Thomas Ryan, Assistant Professor and Administrative Assistant to the Dean, joined the Conservatory faculty in 1997. He received a BM in saxophone performance from Ohio Northern University, an MM in saxophone performance and a Ph.D. in music theory from The Ohio State University. He teaches musicianship and audiation as well as assisting the Dean with curricular issues and coordinating the registration of incoming freshmen. Prior to joining Capital’s faculty, he taught applied saxophone and music theory at Ohio Northern and Denison University.
Dr. Ryan is active locally as a performer, having spent several years with the Rick Brunetto Big Band and with Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra. He has appeared with the Lima Symphony, the Lancaster Festival Orchestra, and the Columbus Symphony Pops, as well as having backed popular performers including Carol Channing, Helen Reddy, Maureen McGovern, and the Manhattan Transfer.
