Dr. Lisa A. Jelle is Associate Professor of Flute at the Capital University Conservatory of Music, Principal Flute of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra, and Piccolo with the Breckenridge Music Festival Chamber Orchestra. She won national auditions for and was a member of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and was also flute professor at Middle Tennessee State University. Currently on the substitute roster with the Columbus Symphony and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, she has also appeared with the Nashville, Alabama, and Charleston Symphonies. Having served as flutist in five different professional woodwind quintets in four different states, Lisa currently is flutist of the Conservatory Faculty Wind Quintet, as well as director of the Flute Choir. With clarinet faculty member Dr. Gail Lehto Zugger, Dr. Jelle formed the Inspirare Duo, which recently premiered Tranquillo e Inspirare with and by jazz pianist Mark Flugge. Other recent commissions and premieres include Breve Duo Latino for flute and bassoon, and Variations on a Theme of Grieg for the Capital faculty woodwind quintet, both by Richard Cioffari. Jagged Edges, for piccolo and piano, was written for Lisa by Dr. Paul Osterfield; her recording of the piece was released by Capstone Records on the “Resonant Edges” CD. Lisa will premiere a new chamber work by Dr. Dina Lentsner at her next faculty recital, in January of 2010. Dr. Jelle has performed and given clinics at flute conventions at both the state and national levels. After earning a double bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Flute Performance, she taught K-12 band, music, and choir in her native Colorado for 2 years before beginning graduate studies. Her major teachers include Maralyn Prestia, Karl F. Kraber, Anne Diener Zentner, Walfrid Kujala, and Leone Buyse. Dr. Jelle holds flute degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, The University of Texas at Austin, and Rice University.
