I'm going to come right out and say it- I enjoy prizes. I enjoy being rewarded for accomplishments, good behavior or for just being me. When in elementary school, often good behavior was tracked with fun little stickers on poster boards..if you earned 10 stickers, you received a prize. When looking back on my childhood, I realize that this prize-winning formula was the driving force behind much of my successes. Good behavior+stickers=prize. Arcade games+tickets=cheap prize. Saying your R's+stickers=treasure chest. That's correct folks, I learned how to say my R's in speech class because when I did good, I got prizes and candy. And to think prizes are the reason why I can say MaRta today....
Fast-forward 10 years! (wow...I've only been able to say my name for 10 years? thats kinda sad....)
As many of you know, I work in the admissions office here at Cap. I love it. I particularly loved the hours I worked today because...surprise, surprise- I was rewarded. As student tour guides, a system was set up to track how many professors/staff we could introduce to prospective students during daily tours. As an incentive, if you reach the lucky number of 10 introductions, the reward is a Chipotle gift card. Student Intern Jesse was in charge, and being the fun, inspirational gal she is, she even made an elementary-type sticker board! Needless to say, the challenge was on for me! Introductions+stickers=BURRITOS!
The challenge was also on for my dear friend Michael..and thus we were the first two to accomplish the burrito-task! We received our gift cards in an impromptu ceremony today- many were jealous. Chipotle is quite the hot spot for Capital kids as its about 4 blocks down Main Street. Michael and I's burrito-date is going to SO be worth all the work. Don't expect us to introduce you to people while in the restaurant..our mouths will be full of mexican-goodness!
On another random note to tie things up- Do you know who ELSE likes presents? The students who came out to University Programming's Wicked Wednesday event this week- A VERY MERRY UN-BIRTHDAY. I name-drop only because I was one of the planners for this party event..and it totallly was a great trip down memory lane. Cupcakes. Ice Cream. Music. Themed decorations. Musical Chairs. Pin the Tail on the Donkey. We had it all- and the winners of the fun party games went away with some great presents. Games+Winning=PRESENTS!
With that, Marta+Long Week=TIRED. I'm off to bed.
Too bad my teeth are too old for the Tooth-Fairy's nightly present-leaving shenanigans....
