The Year Is Over...

Hey everyone, the year is over...I can hardly believe it! The last few weeks have passed by so quickly. Between studying for finals, writing research papers, and making presentations, I've been really swamped! You must also understand that I had to make time to hang out with my girls before it was all said and done! I also went to my first Destroyers Game with my boyfriend and my fam; it was a nice treat! But I couldn't officially conclude my first year without making a final post for you!

Moving out of the dorm was bittersweet. My roommate and I had a packing party, and we only took a break to visit our dorms for next year! Well..okay..I also took a break to go to the end of the year picnic, but Hall Council was hosting it, so I had to be there! :-) Besides, who would pass up free food and games?! In college, that's just not something you do!

I took two finals on Wednesday, and called my dad once I was finished. He came to pick me up..along with 9 months of my life! I must say, taking a loft apart and putting things back where they were is A LOT more tedious than putting a loft together and arranging things when you move in first semester! Here's a tip to incoming freshman...REMEMBER: WHATEVER YOU BRING, YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE HOME! IT WOULD BE WISE NOT TO MOVE YOUR ENTIRE WARDROBE INTO YOUR DORM ROOM! (Take it from me, ladies!)

Aside from the stress of moving and other end of the year "to do's", I did have time to stop and think about my first year experience, and I can honestly say that I've enjoyed it as a whole. I've learned a lot about myself and others.

When I came to Capital, I was so very nervous! I'd been at a private school for 13 years and I didn't know how well I'd be able to adjust. However, I was pleasantly surprised from the start. I met so many wonderful people through the Smooth Transitions Program at the beginning of the year. I enjoyed it so much that I've decided to become a Peer Mentor for incoming freshman in the fall. (If you're reading this, and you're debating on whether or not to attend, please take my word for it...the program is worth your time!) I also met new people during the traditional orientation for incoming freshman. Finally, I made close connections with individuals in my classes. I'm going to miss seeing all of them throughout the week on campus.

I'm especially going to miss the third floor girls from S.S! Life won't be as quiet without them! "Hump Day", hall pranks, Mary Kay, American Idol, and quotes like, "When life hands you lemons, send them back and ask for pink ones so you can make PINK lemonade" have defined my year! *Thanks for all of the laughs ladies, I hope you have a great summer!*

I also enjoyed getting to know my professors. Health, Psych, and College Reading & Writing were among my favorite classes! However, I enjoyed the opportunity to meet and learn from everyone. I'm really looking forward to taking classes for my new major in the fall. I've set high goals for myself, and perhaps one of the most important things that I learned as a result of this year, is that it's okay to ask for help! I feel so optimistic about pursuing a career in Social Work! My primary goal is to make a difference in someone's life.

In the mean time, I'm just relaxing over the break! I work a lot, spend time with my family, hang out with the best boyfriend in the world, and catch up with a few of my favs from home! I wish everyone else a safe and happy summer. Thanks for reading my blogs this year. I've enjoyed making my posts! :-)
