Dawn Stewart made her return to the Ohio Athletic Conference as the Director of Athletics at Capital University on June 1, 2008.
Stewart has made it her goal to bring the campus, alumni and friends of Capital University together through athletics. Since she took over, Capital has seen the addition of several student-athlete welfare programs, the introduction of video streaming for several sports and a newly furnished Moe Lounge. Crusader fans also enjoyed three nationally ranked teams during the 2008-2009 academic year along with a weekend that saw Capital host the OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships and NCAA Men's Basketball First & Second games while the CU women also took part in the NCAA Tournament on the road.
Stewart has been working in athletics administration for over a decade, with eight years of experience coming at her previous stop - the University of Dayton. Among her many duties at UD, Stewart served as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator in which her responsibilities included managing the department's $17-million dollar budget, and providing oversight to athletics communications, athletic academic affairs, student-athlete welfare issues, and the student-athlete life skills program along with serving as program administrator for the women's soccer and softball programs.
Prior to her time at Dayton, Stewart spent two years as recruiting/marketing coordinator and assistant women's tennis coach at Otterbein College.
Stewart was a two-time letterwinner on the women's tennis team at Otterbein. She was a member of two Ohio Athletic Conference championship teams, and was an OAC champion at #1 doubles and runner-up at #2 singles. She was first team all-conference in both of her seasons at Otterbein.
The New Philadelphia native is a 1998 graduate of Otterbein with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. Stewart earned her Master's in Sport Management from The Ohio State University in 2005. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Sport Management at OSU where her research interests will be focused on intercollegiate athletics.
