Academics at Capital University

Your life and education at Capital will be interesting, engaging and often exciting. But everything we do, from freshman orientation to your senior seminar, is ultimately intended to prepare you for a successful life when you graduate. We’re not just talking about your career, either – we mean your relationships, your outlook on the world and your place in the community. And that’s quite a future to look forward to.

What does that mean for you?

  • You’ll earn a liberal arts education – A successful college career is a collection of facts, ideas, experiences and skills that interconnect in mind-boggling ways. You’ll find yourself using something you learned about the Boxer Rebellion in your marketing class, a principle of physics in your communications seminar and even Picasso’s abstract art in your computer science class. And those interconnections create a foundation that will allow you to succeed in every stage of your life beyond Capital.

  • You’ll get to know your professors – Whether you’re taking biology or American foreign policy, your relationship with your professor only starts in the classroom. Our faculty members chose Capital – and we chose them – because they are passionate about teaching students like you. So whether it’s in the hallway, over a cup of coffee at the Crusader Club or on the intramural court, you’re going to see and interact with your professors all day long.

  • We’ll help you hone your professional skills – At the same time you’re learning in the classroom, you’re also going to be doing. We’ll arrange internships, residencies, job shadowing, mentorships, anything that will help you develop the professional skills you’ll need when you leave this place.

  • Ethics and values will play a part – Capital’s education is rooted in the teachings and traditions of the Lutheran Church, and the importance of ethics and values is emphasized in everything we teach.
