  • 14077 Alumnus Brandon Groves teaches English in Japan

    Brandon Groves ('05) spent his first year out of college teaching English in Japan. He held nine weekly classes for Japanese children ranging in age from 4-12 years old. When he wasn't teaching one of these classes, Brandon was an English-language conversation partner. He traveled a lot, too!

    "My work began with a simple question prompted by Dietrich Bonhoeffer's reflections on standing in solidarity with the oppressed: Where is the theological consideration of laughter 'from below,' 'from the perspective of the outcast, the mistreated, the powerless, the oppressed, the reviled – in short, from the perspective of those who suffer'?"

    Barb Packer took her experience as director of Food Pantry Services for Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio and made that the subject of her senior thesis, "Food Distribution to the Needy Can Offer Dignity."

    Capital's ROTC students are known as the Task Force Crusaders.
