Kodály Institute at Capital to Close Season with Free Concert Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006–The Kodály Institute at Capital University will present its closing concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, in Mees Hall, 1 College and Main, in Bexley.

Music teachers from nine states and three countries will perform. The Women's Chorus, directed by visiting Hungarian professor Lilla Gabor, will perform works by Debussy, Bardos, Faure and Oswald. The Mixed Ensemble, directed by local conductor Joel Mathias, will perform works by Kodály, Halmos, Bernstein, Britten and Soundheim.

The concert is free and open to the public.  A collection will be taken for the von Stein Scholarship Fund.

The Kodály Institute at Capital was established in 1980 by Capital graduate Gregory von Stein and Sandra Mathias, professor of music education. It provides students an international faculty of master teachers; high-quality instruction in music and education; a comprehensive musical experience; and an education that will enrich and enhance teaching. It is one of the few schools in the United States to offer special tracks of study for elementary teachers, secondary choral music teachers and instrumental teachers.
