  4. Board Extends Interim Presidency For Second Year

    At its Oct. 23 meeting, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to extend the interim presidency of Denvy A. Bowman. Citing confidence in Bowman and the stability he has brought to the university since his appointment in June 2006, the board extended Bowman’s term through June 30, 2008.

    First-year students? 694. New transfers? 87. Not to mention 29 Capital Nursing Accelerated Program students. With registration now locked, the entering class for fall 2006 is, as expected, the largest in Capital’s history.

  7. Jacqueline Bussie Wins Trinity Prize for Book on Laughter Through Tears

    Jacqueline Bussie just didn’t get it. The joke was lost on her. The religion and philosophy professor saw nothing funny about the account of a slave being burned alive, as told in Toni Morrison’s “Beloved.” Not a hint of humor in the tale of Holocaust victims being led to their death by merciless Nazi guards, as told in Elie Wiesel’s “The Gates of the Forest.” And, yet, there was laughter.
