Capital University Theatre Opens 2006-2007 Season with ‘Metamorphoses’

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006–Capital University Theatre will open its 2007-2007 season with Mary Zimmerman’s Tony Award-winning play “Metamorphoses” Thursday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Oct. 15.

In this adaptation of David Slavitt’s translation of Ovid’s transformation myths, several familiar myths (Midas, Eros and Psyche, Orpheus and Eurydice), and some that are rarely explored (Myrrah, Alcyone and Ceyx, Baucis and Philemon), are performed in and around a pool of water – the most symbolic and transformative of the ancient elements.

While these stories may be ancient, their powerful narratives transcend time and remind even contemporary audiences that change is inevitable.

Showtime for Thursday through Saturday performances is 8 p.m., and at 2 p.m. Sunday.  All performances will be in the Cabaret Theatre, located in the lower level of the Harry C. Moores Campus Center, 1 College and Main. Tickets are $7 for adults; $5 for students and senior citizens; and free for students with a current Capital I.D. For more information, please call (614) 236-7174.
