Nothing beats getting mail. Nothing. I know in my last post I uncovered some of the best walks on campus...now I would like to highlight some of the best mailings on campus. I grew up always going to the mailbox after walking home from school, and was always the "Diehm Family Official Christmas Card Opener/Expertise" Ok, so I didn't really have a title. But boy did I love all the holiday greetings from church parishoners, friends, and family.
Once in college, box 1492 has brought me much joy. (Thats correct. That was a blatant box number placement.) 1492 Columbus Sailed the Ocean Blue. 1492 Marta in Columbus Wants Mail from You! That's right, I even made up my own Mail rhyme.
Moving along, I shall present to you 4 types of mailings that warm my lil November heart.
1. "Random Things from Home Package. Love: Mom" - Most people will refer to these as care packages. While she deeply cares, mine end up being a little less caring and a little more random. Sure there will always be something I asked for in there- but along with the neccessity there will be things like magnetic glowing pins, bubbles, a card with a funny dog on it and some other random goodies.
2. "Here is Yet Another Phone Love: Verizon" I was in a relationship with my first Verizon phone for almost two years. He treated me nicely and told me the things I wanted to hear- that is until his screen busted and the communication stopped. My first replacement, an exact replica of the first came a few weeks later. It's screen was just fine, but according to my mom "2 minutes into the conversation you start to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher." Mwahh wahh wahhhh. I should have never trusted such a similar man. So, this week yet another package came with a brand new phone. He's silver. And pretty. Treats me well AND is working. Yay for packages sending me cell phones.
3. "Here is Some Food for You Love: Sam" Today I received one of the most unexpectedly pleasant purple slips in my mailbox. What was the package? A taste of Pittsburgh awesomeness from a friend back home, Sam. Along with a generous check for a school Philanthropy project, she sent me Eat N Park smiley cookies! If you're not from Pittsburgh, you just can't understand. I shared the PGH love with those Burghers I could find. A dozen smiley cookies smiled right back at me as I opened the package, and I was so tickled pink (and blue, and green, and purple...alll the smiley colors!) Thanks a million Sam!
4. "I Don't Come in a Package But I'm Still Great Love: People Magazine" I'm sure I've shared the joys of my People subscription on here before, but it truly is the best thing I can find in my mailbox other than the purple package slip. Ususally people in the PO lobby experience this excitement as I squeal. I love Pop Culture, what more is there to say. People Mag is what gets me over to work out on the stationary bikes. I'm feeding both my mind and my body with the subscription. If loving People is wrong, I don't want to be right.
Thats it, folks. I could continue to think of more fun mail categorizes, but I think its about dinner time. It's also time to call up my dear mother so she can get a glimpse of her third born's face on the main page. I love you all, first year bloggers, but I got a lot more "face time" on the main page last year :). Nothing but love....to everyone! If you were on campus, I'd give you one of my smiley face cookies. If you ARE on campus........forget I just said that.
That's it and that's all,
Marta
PS: I love both mail AND email! Send me somethin'!
