Two Crusader Teams in OAC Tournament

Crusaders Play For OAC Tournament Titles This Weekend

Who needs the Scarlet and Gray for athletic excitement in Central Ohio when you’ve got the Purple and White?

Two Crusader teams will vie for conference tournament championships this weekend, as both Capital’s volleyball and women's soccer teams will play in their respective Ohio Athletic Conference tournaments.

Ranked No. 25 in the nation and 25-8 overall, the volleyball Crusaders are the third-seed in the tournament and will go against seven-seed Muskingum College in the OAC Tournament semifinals Friday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m. at the Ohio Northern University Sports Center in Ada, Ohio.

The volleyball team, which won the OAC Tournament a year ago, advanced to the semifinals after a 3-0 win Tuesday against Marietta College in the quarterfinals. Capital and Muskingum have met five previous times in the OAC Volleyball Tournament, including the 2002 championship match.  The Muskies hold a 3-2 lead in the five meetings, but the Crusaders won the last two meetings in 2004 and 2005.

Capital Sports Information student assistants Scott Miles and Mike Ott will call a live audio webcast of Friday’s match on the Capital Crusaders' Web site.

The women’s soccer team travels Saturday to cross-town rival Otterbein College, ranked No. 21 nationally, for their OAC Tournament Championship match. The winner of the match will claim the OAC’s automatic bid to next week’s NCAA Division III Championship.

The Crusaders handed the Cardinals its only loss in conference play this season, as Otterbein finished 8-1 to win the OAC’s regular season title.  The last time the two schools met in the OAC Tournament was in 2004 when the Cardinals came to Capital and knocked off the top-seeded Crusaders, 1-0.
