In her first year at Capital, athletic trainer Andrea Schimmel is responsible for the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and care of all athletic injuries for Capital women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s track and field.Previously she served as an athletic trainer/professor at Barton College, a Division II institution in Wilson, N.C. At Barton, she was responsible for the coverage of Barton women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s golf and baseball. Schimmel also taught courses within Barton’s Athletic Training Education Program.Schimmel received her master's degree at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. where she served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Rider’s athletic teams for two years.She also served as a certified intern athletic trainer at the United States Naval Academy for one year. Schimmel's primary responsibilities at Navy were with football and women’s lacrosse. She was also the rehabilitation coordinator for Navy football student-athletes.
