Sankofa Circle Discussion: PGD to Ph.D.

The Multicultural Affairs Office and University Programming Present a Sankofa Circle Discussion: PDG (poor girl on dope) to Ph.D.  

 

This one-woman show is based on excerpts from her memoir, Po Girl on Dope (PGD) to Ph.D.: How Education Saved My Life.  The performance covers the following topics: social and educational crises, especially among Black girls and women, lure of the street life and sex trafficking, violence, recovery, self-learning and self-love. Dr. E, accompanied by her band, will also perform a one-hour concert performing songs from her debut CD Elevated as well as songs from favorite soul singers.   

 

Dr. Elaine Richardson earned a doctorate in English and Applied Linguistics from Michigan State University. She taught for nine years at Penn State University, taking a tenured position in 2007 at the Ohio State University, where she is currently professor of literacy studies in the College of Education and Human Ecology. 

 

Followed by a musical performance from 7-8:30 pm in the Mezz.
