Jazz and World Music Festival

  • Celebrating the 41st birthday of the Capital University Jazz Studies Program

Capital University's Conservatory of Music will present the 23rd Annual Jazz & World Music Festival from April 3rd-April 25th, 2017. This event features music student, faculty and guest ensemble concerts, both on campus and in the community, and world-class jazz artists in clinics, workshops, and in concert throughout the period. All events are free and open to the public unless marked otherwise. A full schedule follows below!

Friday, April 7th is earmarked for the Jazz Ensemble Invitational, bringing together middle and high school, collegiate and community jazz ensembles from within a multi-state region, and our own Capital ensembles for a friendly non-competitive atmosphere in an educationally emphasized setting.

At 10 a.m. we will featuring the Capital University Big Band, under the direction of festival coordinator Dr. Lou Fischer along with this year’s featured guest artists: Ndugu Chancler, world-renowned drummer/percussionist extraordinaire, Fred Hamilton, head of the guitar department at the University of North Texas, and Steve Allee, jazz piano instructor at Cinicinnati Conservatory of Music.

At 11 am, enjoy the variance of clinic offerings from our featured artists and guest adjudicators for saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drum set. There is a lunch break at Noon with entertainment provided by the conFUSION Band and others to be announced. Then plan to stick around for the many fine performances by guest school ensembles and many Capital ensembles from 1 pm-6 pm
