      Students pursuing careers in energy law will soon have an opportunity for scholarship support, thanks to the generosity of Columbia Gas of Ohio.

      The Columbus-based utility has announced that it will endow The Columbia Gas of Ohio, Inc. Energy Law Scholarship at Capital University Law School. The scholarship, to be funded by a six-figure gift, will benefit upper-level students with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in energy law, and will help support the energy and environmental law program at the Law School.

      “We are delighted that Columbia Gas is making this major contribution to the Law School,” said Interim Dean Rachel M. Janutis. “It demonstrates a deep commitment to legal education in general and to Capital in particular.”

      Serving approximately 1.4 million customers, Columbia Gas of Ohio. is the largest natural gas utility in the state. Columbia Cares, the company’s philanthropic program, supports organizations that support safety, economic and workforce development, housing and hunger and energy education. The company’s president, Daniel A. Creekmur, L’06, is a Capital University Law School graduate and a member of the Capital University Board of Trustees.

      Capital Law School is the home of The Midwest Center for Energy Law and Policy  and offers an Energy Law and Policy Concentration. Together, the center and the energy law concentration provide Capital’s students with invaluable training and knowledge for accessing the many professional opportunities in Ohio’s robust energy sector.
