With the academic year now behind us, Capital University has started an aggressive schedule of campus improvement projects, including the Blackmore Library renovation. To minimize disruption and keep you informed of progress, we’ll post a weekly update to the News and Events page on what’s been completed and what’s in store for the week ahead, along with information about road closures, restricted campus parking, and of course, pictures. You can also visit www.capital.edu/construction and watch Facebook.com/capitalu and Twitter.com (@capital_u) to track our progress.
Blackmore Library renovation
Furniture and office moves began May 7, and demolition and construction started today, Monday, May 14. The process for removing asbestos containing materials began Friday, May 11, with the construction of containment barriers. Abatement work also began May 14, and it is expected to be complete in early June.
Campus parking lot resurfacing
Several parking lots on campus need to be patched and resurfaced. Work will begin this week on the lots at Renner Hall, Loy Gymnasium and the Admission and Welcome Center. The lot between Loy and Renner will be closed on Tuesday, May 15, and the lot between Loy and the Admission and Welcome Center will be closed Wednesday, May 16. Subsequent seal coating and striping also will be needed, requiring the lots to be closed again toward the end of the week, though the dates have not yet been confirmed.
College Avenue construction between Livingston Avenue and Main Street
The City of Bexley has announced plans to reconstruct College Avenue between Main Street and Livingston Avenue this summer. Beginning Monday, May 21, traffic will be blocked at various points on College Avenue. Signs and barricades will be posted at Charles and Astor avenues and at Main Street. Traffic will be detoured to Sheridan Avenue, though local traffic and College Avenue residents will be accommodated when possible. The first phase of construction is expected to last three months.
