News-Parton-252The Capital University community is invited to join Provost Richard Ashbrook this afternoon for a Celebration of Excellence, this academic year's first College Colloquium, featuring a lecture and CD signing by music professor and "Chicago's busiest trumpet player" Rob Parton.

The lecture will take place at 4 pm Monday, September 16, in Kable Chapel, located in Kerns Religious Life Center. Light refreshments will be served.

Parton will discuss his recently released CD, The Rob Parton Big Band's We'll Be Together Again. Parton, known as one of Chicago's busiest and most versatile trumpet players, is highly regarded as a studio, theater and jazz musician. As a studio musician, he has played on hundreds of radio and TV commercials.

He has performed with the best of the best, including Chicago Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, Doc Severinsen, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra Jr., Mel Tormé, Beach Boys, Celine Dion, Natalie Cole and Maynard Ferguson, among others.

News-Parton-CD-125As a theater musician, Parton has played national tours and local productions of West Side Story, Wicked, Full Monty, Sweet Charity, Music Man, Legally Blonde and Young Frankenstein. He has earned national and international accolades for his seven critically acclaimed compact discs on the Sea Breeze Jazz label, before releasing his newest CD on JAZZTECH Records. Already it has received airplay in 13 countries.

Parton will play recorded selections from his new CD and offer commentary. CDs will be available for purchase at the lecture.

Capital University is especially fortunate to claim Professor Parton as a member of its faculty. We hope to see you on Monday.
