Capital University Law School has continued its track record of being among the best Ohio law schools in terms of passing the state bar exam on the first attempt.

The school placed second among Ohio’s nine law schools for the percentage of its graduates to pass the July 2012 Ohio Bar Exam, with 92 percent of its graduates passing the test. During the past five years, an average of 90 percent of Capital law graduates have passed the exam on the first attempt.

This marks the seventh year in a row Capital University Law School has ranked above the state average for first-time takers of the Ohio Bar Exam.

"Passage of the bar exam is a fundamental objective measure of performance for law school graduates, and being among Ohio’s top-performing law schools says a great deal about the educational experience Capital provides."

“We are tremendously pleased with these results,” said Dean Rich Simpson. “Passage of the bar exam is a fundamental objective measure of performance for law school graduates, and being among Ohio’s top-performing law schools says a great deal about the educational experience Capital provides.”

Capital University Law School also had more if its graduates pass the bar than any other Ohio law school, with 140 alumni passing the bar. During the past five years, Capital has admitted 795 alumni to the bar – more than any other law school.

“Our challenge for the future is to stay focused on the importance of preparing our students for this exam, while increasing the market-readiness of our graduates,” Simpson said. “We will achieve that by ensuring they also have the practical skills needed to make them assets to their future employers from the first day on the job. We are also exploring ways to enhance our curriculum to address the evolving needs of our students and their future employers.”

Simpson said Capital Law School also will continue focusing on its priorities of developing a culture of innovation that places the Law School at the vanguard of education and providing its high-quality legal education at a lower cost.
