The Capital University track & field teams set a school record and recorded a number of fine marks at a pair of meets over the weekend, competing against talent from all divisions.

The 4x400-meter relay team of seniors Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio), Sarah Trick (Tipp City, Ohio), junior Aimee Hall (Amanda, Ohio) and sophomore Caitlin Prange (Columbus, Ohio) set a school record with a time of 3:53.99, besting the previous record held by the same foursome by nearly five seconds, at Friday’s Louisville Cardinal Twilight in Louisville, Ky. The 4x400 team’s mark currently stands as the 29th-best in the nation this season.

Trick also competed in the 800-meter run, finishing seventh with a time of 2:15:31. Junior Casey Simmons (Beavercreek, Ohio) ran the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:02.57, her outdoor career best.

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Andrew Appelt, junior Josh Woods (Marysville, Ohio), Corey Easley and senior Troy Spiker (Rootstown, Ohio) placed fourth in the event with a time of 42.35.

Woods competed in the 200-meter dash and finished in 22.24, good for 11th place.

Two student-athletes took part in Friday's and Saturday's Grand Valley State Second To Last Chance and Last Chance meets in Allendale, Mich.

On Friday, junior Emily Sheets (Gahanna, Ohio) bested her previous school record with a toss of 138-07 in the discus throw. She set her previous mark of 135-09 in April 2011. Sheets competed in three more events Saturday, winning the javelin throw with a mark of 118-11 and placing 10th in the high jump with a leap of 5-01.00 and ninth in the discus throw (127-10).

Junior Erik Barenwald (Bainbridge, Ohio) placed sixth in the discus (142-08) and seventh in the shot put (46-11.00) on Saturday after fielding marks of 128-03 in the discus and 44-11.50 in the shot put Friday.
