About CSSP
  • Who We Are

    The staff in the Community Service and Student Programs Office strive to educate students about social issues, as well as promote involvement with these issues through service and leadership opportunities tailored to your interests and skills.

    Carla Daniels, Assistant Director of CSSP (cdaniels@capital.edu), came to Capital University from the non-profit sector and as a consultant working with the K-12 population. She attended college at Washburn University at Topeka, receiving her B.A. in Mass Media. She earned her Master's degree in Instructional Multimedia for Workforce Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Carla has a lifelong passion for helping others move forward in their lives as well giving back to help others. It was during her research for various papers that she discovered a passion for service, social justice, and student learning. Carla oversees leadership development programs, the CAPSLS service-learning program, the Leaders Emerging and Developing (L.E.A.D.) program, community service activities, Alternative Spring Break, The Midwest Campus Compact Citizen-Scholar (M3C) Fellows Program, and the America Reads program.

    The CSSP office works collaboratively with Capital staff, faculty, and students to empower Capital students to develop as active citizens through:

    • Education on social issues
    • Supportive resources
    • Connections to quality community service* and active learning opportunities
    • Challenges to internalize experiences and act upon awareness to make a positive impact in their community
