    Blackboard (Bb) is Capital’s Learning Management System which will assist instructors with communicating, collaborating, distributing and collecting materials in an on-line environment.

    Blackboard Basics Face to Face Orientations

    The Blackboard Basics face-to-face orientations are held at varying times throughout the year to assist new and current instructors get a better understanding of basic Bb funtionality. Face-to-face orientations are held in a group setting that provides instructors the opportunity to learn from each other. Time and location of this orientation session will be communicated to those who have expressed interest. Topics covered in the session include: 

    • Turning on the course
    • Adding users
    • Uploading content
    • Adding Assignments, Learning Units and other Content Types
    • Editing the Course Menu
    • Addressing any other questions or concerns that may come up 

    Blackboard Online Course

    The Blackboard online course is a Bb course designed to teach Bb skills; teaching the tool with the tool. The online course contains video and text of all of the topics covered in the face-to-face orientation and is currently being expanded to cover more complex topics.

    It also has an online discussion board and several self assessments. This online course should appear in an instructor’s ‘My Courses’ section in Blackboard under ‘Courses in which you are enrolled’ as ‘Faculty Bb Orientation’. If you do not see the online orientation listed in your ‘My Courses’ section please contact Instructional Technology and Academic Support directly at academictech@capital.edu
