About Capital

We are a comprehensive, independent university grounded in the Lutheran tradition. The education we offer is experiential, intimate, and urban. From the arts and sciences to professional programs, our teachers excel at both challenging students and creating a personalized learning environment. We believe the intellect is best developed when it’s exposed to education inside and far from the classroom. That’s how we engage the community in the pursuit of lifelong learning. In short, Capital University prepares students
to contribute to the world — through both their professional lives and personal service.

Students & Faculty

According to our Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, Capital is currently home to 3,632 undergraduate and graduate students, and 644 of those are in our Freshman class.

We also employ 199 full-time and over 200 part-time faculty which helps us to keep our class sizes small and give students the individual attention they need.

We have an 11:1 student to faculty ratio for our undergraduate students, and in fall 2008, 62% of our classes had 20 students or less.

Scholarship

Capital is committed to hands-on learning and primary research at the undergraduate level. Capital students are frequently chosen to present their findings at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR).

In the School of Nursing, a projected 95 percent of the class of 2005 passed the registered nurses’ licensure exam (NCLEX) on their first attempt. This is well above the national average of 84 percent.

Capital organizes the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning, a day of workshops and special events aimed at promoting diversity and lifelong learning. All events are open to students and the wider community.

Success Stories

Many career-minded students are encouraged by the success of our students, who can be found across the world serving as teachers, lawyers, financial planners, ministers, registered nurses and more. You can read our stories to learn more about the value of a Capital degree.
