Capital University To Hold 163rd Commencement May 4

News-Kessler-175Capital University will hold its 163rd Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at The Capital Center Field House, located at 1 College and Main in Bexley.

Bexley Mayor Ben Kessler will deliver the keynote address. The ceremony will begin at 2 pm. Doors will open at 12:30. More than 530 graduates are expected to participate. Tickets are required for admission.

Family members and friends who are unable to attend the ceremony can view it live online at www.capital.edu/commencement. Webcast coverage will begin at 1:55 pm. Beginning a week after Commencement, a video of the ceremony will be available there to view on demand.

Mayor Ben Kessler is a third-generation Bexley resident who was elected by Bexley City Council to serve in the Office of Mayor through the end of 2013.

Prior to his election as Mayor, Kessler was elected to a second term as a member of Bexley City Council in November of 2011. He has served in Bexley City Council as chair of the Zoning and Development Committee, chair of the Finance Committee, and briefly as president of council in early 2012.

Mayor Kessler also was the founder and chairperson of the Bexley Land Use Strategy, a multiyear resident-led effort to build a common vision for land use policy and redevelopment strategies facing Bexley in the coming years. Additionally, he served as a member of the Bexley Historical Society Board of Trustees; a committee member of the Alum Creek Corridor Committee and the Main Street Guidelines Committee; and a member of the Heritage Ohio Advisory Panel.

Prior to taking office as Bexley mayor, Kessler was the vice president of litigation support at Samuel D. Koon & Associates, a commercial real estate appraisal and consultancy firm.

During his term Kessler has maintained open and meaningful dialogue with Capital University and its students. He has worked collaboratively with the University and other community partners to leverage the city's intellectual, artistic and cultural assets to strengthen the community for businesses and residents, alike.
