Capital University will present Christmas Festival 2013, And On Earth Peace, on Thursday, December 5, through Sunday, December 8, in Mees Hall. Tickets will be available to students, faculty and staff during a two-day pre-sale from 10 am to 4 pm Monday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 29, at the Mees Hall Box Office. Public ticket sales will begin November 4.
Featuring performances by the 2012 World Choir Games Gold Medal-Winning Chapel Choir, along with Choral Union, Women’s Chorus, The Chordsmen, Philomel and a variety of instrumentalists, Capital University’s annual Christmas Festival is far more than the standard Christmas concert with carols, poinsettias, holly and hallelujahs.
It’s a transcendent musical offering during which more than 300 musicians embrace the audience in song. The readings, which range from scripture to poetry, serve to illuminate the 2013 festival theme, And On Earth Peace.
Lighting and staging transition from intimate candle-lit ambience to brightly lit concert hall resonating with the sounds of audience and choir singing together as a “multitude of the heavenly hosts.” This more-than-a-concert event features songs from past centuries, combined with familiar carols and arrangements and music representing a wide range of musical cultures and styles.
Centered around themes that connect us as humans, Capital’s Christmas Festival celebrates our own traditions with familiar carols and readings while also honoring those observed by cultures worldwide. And for a few hours during the first weekend of each December, the concept of community transcends rhetoric and becomes a tangible experience.
This joyous musical feast of voice, poetry, musical precision and tradition leads an audience on a journey that lifts the spirit and engages the mind. The concert is presented as a loving gift to the Capital and greater Columbus communities.
Thursday through Saturday performances are set for 7:30 pm, and Sunday’s performance is set for 3:30 pm.
In order to offer a convenient dinner-and-a-show experience for concert-goers, Thursday and Friday performances will be preceded by a special, reservation-only dinner reception in one of Capital’s catering spaces. The menu will feature elegant culinary creations from Parkhurst Catering.
Diners will receive a ticket for one drink with the purchase of each dinner, but a full cash bar also will be available. The cost of the dinner is $25 and tickets must be reserved in advance. Space is limited, so call the CAPA box office at 614-469-0939 and reserve your space early.
All students, faculty, staff emeriti and retirees are entitled to one complimentary concert ticket and may purchase up to five additional tickets prior to the general public ticket sale. Complimentary tickets will not be available after October 29.
Please note: Due to the seamless nature of the 90-minute program, the Christmas Festival is not appropriate for infants or children under 6 years of age.
Concert tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for student and senior citizens. All ticket sales that occur after the pre-sale will be handled by CAPA.
