Capital University will welcome students ages 14-17 interested in exploring creative arts as part of a one-week immersive summer camp experience July 21-25, 2014. During this time, the students will live on campus and learn from Capital’s art, film and theater professors. The camp will be hosted in the educational and lab facilities on Capital’s Bexley campus.

Students can choose from one of three camp options — Film Production Camp, Acting for Film Camp, and Digital Arts Camp:

  • At the Film Production Camp, students will work in small crews with an adult mentor to produce a short film with actors from the Acting for Film Camp. As part of the process, participants will learn screenwriting techniques and work with industry-standard equipment and editing software. Betsy Pike ’04, director of Electronic Media and Film at Capital University, will lead this camp. Pike’s credentials include working as director, writer, producer and executive producer for various feature length films, short films (FreeWall), documentaries, promotional videos (Your Downtown Muncie), instructional and music videos. She also directs university television, CapTV, Capital’s student-produced television channel.
  • Participants in the Acting for Film Camp will have the opportunity to learn and apply techniques in character-building, line-reading, movement and acting for the camera — in addition to participating in a short film with the Film Production Camp students. Dr. Bill Kennedy, director of theater at Capital University, will lead this camp. Dr. Kennedy is an actor, director, prolific playwright and technician for various university and regional theater companies including the Cleveland Opera, Pittsburgh’s Civic Light Opera, The Great Meadows Summer Theatre, Porthouse Theatre, and the Ashland Summer Theatre Festival.
  • Students participating in the Digital Arts Camp will explore the technical and expressive nature of digital photography and creative imaging in a college Mac lab environment. During this time, participants will create digital art using cameras, scanners, printers and other media technology. This portion of the camp will be overseen by Professor Jeff Shaw, a digital artist and painter who serves as an instructor in the Art Program at Capital University.

Overnight accommodations and all meals and necessary equipment will be provided, although campers will be responsible for bringing their own bed linens, toiletries and other personal items. Participants will be accompanied by camp counselors throughout the day and provided access to a conference assistant at the front desk of Capital’s secure College Avenue Residence Hall.

The registration deadline is July 10, 2014. The camp fee is $715 if paid or postmarked by May 1, 2014. After May 1, the camp fee is $765. To find out more or to register, please visit Capital's Summer Creative Arts Programs webpage at
