Commencement Information for Parents and Families
  • Commencement Ceremony

    Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2 pm 

    The ceremony will run for approximately two and a half (2 ½) hours. Tickets are required for admission.
    Doors open at 12:30 pm.  Families and guests are encouraged to arrive early as there is no reserved seating.  Please enter the Capital Center through the Pleasant Ridge Avenue (west) doors that are closest to Main Street.

    Family members and friends who are unable to attend the ceremony can view it live online at www.capital.edu/commencement. Webcast coverage of Capital’s 164th Commencement ceremony will begin at 1:55 pm. Beginning a week after Commencement, a video of the ceremony will be available there to view on-demand.

  • Baccalaureate Service

    The 2014 Baccalaureate Service will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 10 am in Mees Auditorium. All students and their families and guests are invited to attend this ecumenical service. Eric Anderson, Director of Career Development, will address the audience.

  • Commencement Ceremony Tickets

    August 2013 and December 2013 graduates are eligible and invited to participate in the May 3, 2014 Commencement Ceremony, along with the May 2014 graduates. Each graduate must contact the Registrar's Office to indicate their participation in the graduation ceremony.

    After fulfilling all degree requirements, each graduate will receive five (5) guest tickets to the Ceremony. 

    • May 2014 graduating traditional students at the Main Campus may pick up their tickets at the campus post office counter the week of April 28 - May 2.
       
    • Tickets for May 2014 graduate students in the MBA, MSN MME, CLL and C-NAP programs will be mailed to their permanent addresses the week of April 14.
       
    • Tickets for August 2013 and December 2013 (MBA, MSN, MME, CLL, C-NAP, and Traditional) graduates who intend to participate in the May 3, 2014 commencement ceremony will be mailed to their permanent addresses the week of April 14. Please verify your address is correct by contacting the Registrar's Office.

       
    • Tickets will also be available for pickup during rehearsal on Friday, May 2, 2014.

  • Family and Graduate Brunch

    Preceding the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 3, 2014, graduates are invited to bring their families and guests to the Family and Graduate Brunch.

    Parking on Capital's Main Campus During Commencement

    Visitors may park in any campus lot, provided the spaces are not marked handicap or reserved. 

    The North side of the "S-1" lot will have a limited number of spaces for Mobility Impaired Parking. These spaces are accessible by a special Mobility Impaired Parking Pass. These passes are limited to one per family. Please make your requests to the Conference Services office by April 25, 2014.

  • Special Needs

    There will be areas specially designated for handicapped seating. The day of the ceremony, please locate an usher for assistance.

    A sign language interpreter will be available for those who are hearing impaired. The day of the ceremony, please locate an usher for assistance.

    Baby-sitting will not be provided. You are encouraged to take children out of the Field House to The Capital Center Arena if they become restless during the ceremony.
