University and Community Perks
  • There are additional benefits that come from working in a university setting as well as working in a caring community. Below are some of the added benefits that are available to employees of the University, including special offers and discounts offered by many of the businesses around the University. To take advantage of these offers, identify yourself as a Capital University employee. You may also be required to show your Capital University ID card.

    Athletic Events

    Employees and their immediate family members (with a valid family member Capital ID) are encouraged to attend Capital’s sporting events throughout the year. There is no charge for regular-season games.

    Bookstore Discount

    Employees receive a 10 percent discount on clothing and novelty items at the bookstore on main campus (some exclusions may apply).

    Capital Center and Athletic Facilities

    The Capital Center is a 126,000-square-foot recreational and athletic complex that includes basketball courts, indoor/outdoor tracks, football field, extensive fitness center and much more. Employees and their immediate family members (with a valid Capital ID) are welcome to utilize The Capital Center and other athletic facilities located on campus, including the tennis courts, volleyball courts and soccer fields.

    COESRA and ESM Discounts

    Central Ohio Employee Services and Recreation Association (COESRA) and Employee Services Management Association (ESM) are programs that provide programs and services at discounted rates. Some of their current promotions include savings on cars, flowers, hotels, and cell phone services as well as discounts on various entertainment attractions such as Kings Island, Columbus Crew, COSI, and the Columbus Zoo. Visit their websites to view all of the discounts that employees can receive. See the annual COESRA/ ESM brochure provided by the Human Resource Office to find username and password information.

    Dining Services Discount

    Employees may dine in the Main Dining Room for the following special rates:
    Breakfast: $5.15
    Lunch: $6.25
    Dinner: $8.25
    Theme meals: $10.50

    Library Access

    Employees have access to the Blackmore and Law School libraries. See the circulation desks to learn more about the services that each library offers.

    Conference Services Discount

    Employees receive a 50% discount off of room rentals for personal use.

    Parking Privileges

    Employees of Capital University qualify to receive one parking permit per year at no cost.


    Many of our local restaurants offer discounts to Capital University faculty and staff. Show your Capital ID to gain valuable discounts at these eateries:

    • Drexel Theatre
    • Penn Station

    Schumacher Gallery

    Located on the top floor of Blackmore Library, the art gallery includes a permanent collection of works from recognizable artists and special exhibitions throughout the year. There is no charge for admission and employees are encouraged to visit.

    Theatre Productions and Music Conservatory Concerts

    Faculty and staff are welcome to attend Capital’s theatre and musical events throughout the year for free with their university ID.
