Giving Societies: Recognizing our Donors
  • Capital University giving societies gratefully recognize those individuals who have demonstrated significant loyal and continuing support to the University and its program through their financial contributions and commitments.

    President’s Council

    President Council recognizes donors who have contributed $50,000 or more to Capital University during their lifetime. Benefits include, but are not limited to, invitations to special events. Once an individual’s lifetime contributions have exceeded $50,000, the donor also becomes a member of one of the following six lifetime giving societies:

    Wilhelm Schmidt Society

    Named for the founder of the Theological Seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Ohio, out of which Capital University was established. Recognizes lifetime gift support of over $2,000,000.

    William Lehmann Society

    Named for Capital’s third president. Recognizes lifetime gift support of $1,000,000 to $1,999,999.

    Lincoln Goodale Society

    Named for Capital founder, benefactor, and former board president. Recognizes lifetime gift support of $500,000 to $999,999.

    William Reynolds Society

    Named for Capital’s first president. Recognizes lifetime gift support of $200,000 to $499,999.

    Jenny Lind Society

    Named for renowned opera singer and Capital’s first major donor (1851). Recognizes lifetime gift support of $100,000 to $199,999.

    Martha Ochs Society

    Named for the first female faculty member at Capital University (1920). Recognizes lifetime gift support of $50,000 to $99,999. 

    Capital Fund Donor Recognition Levels

    Annual contributions designated specifically for the Capital Fund, made between July 1 and June 30 each year, are recognized through one of the following seven gift clubs or societies:

    The Trustees Society

    Recognizes annual contributions to the Capital Fund totaling more than $1,000.

    Trustees Society Gold

    Recognizes annual contributions to the Capital Fund totaling more than $10,000.

    Trustees Society Silver

    Recognizes annual contributions to the Capital Fund totaling $5,000 to $9,999.

    Trustees Society Bronze

    Recognizes annual contributions to the Capital Fund totaling $2,500 to $4,999.

    The 1850 Club

    Recognizes annual contributions to the Capital Fund totaling $500 to $999.

    The University Club

    Recognizes annual contributions to the Capital Fund totaling $250 to $499.

    The Purple & White Club

    Recognizes annual contributions to the Capital Fund totaling $150 to $249.  

    Heritage Society

    The Heritage Society was created to recognize and thank alumni, family, and friends who have made a bequest or planned gift to Capital University. By becoming a Heritage Society member, you join the company of many who have helped to provide for generations of students and scholars to come. Most importantly, you will be making an invaluable contribution to securing the future for Capital University.
