    Goatley 125x175David Emmanuel Goatley is the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention—an international Christian missions agency founded in 1897 that helps churches extend their witness to the ends of the earth (since 1997)—and the Executive Director of Lott Carey International—a global relief and development agency that helps improve the quality of life in marginalized communities around the world (since 2000). As the chief executive officer of these two agencies, Mr. Goatley oversees vision, administration, and development efforts to invest in indigenous leaders and communities in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America.

    An ordained Baptist minister who has been an urban missionary, lead pastor, university professor, and seminary professor, Rev. Goatley earned degrees from the University of Louisville (AAS and BS) and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv and PhD). In addition to journal articles, book chapters, and online essays, Dr. Goatley is the author of three books, Were You There?: Godforsakenness in Slave Religion (Orbis Books, 1996; Augsburg Fortress Press, 2008) and A Divine Assignment: The Missiology of Wendell Clay Somerville (Lucas Parks Books, 2010); and Missions Is Essential (Lott Carey Convention, 2011); and editor of Black Religion, Black Theology: Selected Writings of J. Deotis Roberts (Trinity Press International, 2003).

    A global strategic and thought leader, Dr. Goatley serves national and international communities that include:
     

    • National Board of Directors of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)—a premier civil rights organization in the United States
    • Board Directors for United to End Genocide—the largest activist organization in America dedicated to preventing and ending genocide and mass atrocities worldwide;
    • Board of Trustees for The Fund for Theological Education—a unique ministry that supports gifted and diverse young leaders for vocations in pastoral ministry and theological education; and
    • President of the North American Baptist Fellowship—the largest regional body of the Baptist World Alliance representing more than 30 Baptist denominations and organizations with more than 20 million Baptists in Canada and North America


    Dr. Goatley resides in Metropolitan Washington, DC with his family.
