Capital Mourns the Loss of Incoming Student Elizabeth Catoe
Capital University is deeply saddened to share news of the passing of incoming student Elizabeth Joy Catoe, who died after sustaining serious injuries during a single-vehicle accident Sunday, July 31. She was 19.
A native of Point of Rocks, Md., Elizabeth had completed the transfer process to Capital after spending two years at Carlow University, located in Pittsburgh, Pa. She would have joined her sister, Capital senior Becca Catoe, as a junior at Capital this fall.
As a freshman at Carlow, Catoe was a standout on the women’s basketball team at Carlow. Her sophomore season was shortened after an injury limited her to three games, but her potential was seen by Capital head women’s basketball coach, Dixie Jeffers, who recruited her to join the Crusaders.
“Even though my time with Liz was brief it was impactful,” said Jeffers. “Liz was full of energy for life and very committed to her faith in the Almighty. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to the Catoe family. I cannot find words to express our sympathy.”
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm Saturday, August 6, at New Life Christian Gymnasium in Frederick, Md. Find additional details, or share sympathies with the family at: http://www.staufferfuneralhome.com/notices/Elizabeth-Catoe
