What is OneSearch? | Capital University

  • What is OneSearch?

OneSearch is a one-stop search interface that displays results from the Classic Catalog, OhioLINK, and many of the Blackmore Library databases.
OneSearch does NOT replace access to the research resources individually — you can continue to access them within their original search interfaces by using the Find Articles link or the Classic Catalog.

What can you find in OneSearch?

Print and electronic books, DVDs, streaming videos, CDs, scores, full text articles, abstracts and citations from databases to which we do not subscribe.

    When should I use OneSearch?

OneSearch is a good starting point for your research. It can be used when you are looking for a variety of resources on a topic or when you are searching for a subject that's harder to find. It is great for discovery and exploration of a topic!

    • The Classic Catalog may be an easier search option if you are just interested in books or DVDs or have a specific title or author in mind.
    • The OhioLINK Catalog may be an easier search option if you are just interested in books or DVDs that Blackmore Library does not own.
    • Searching specific databases in addition to OneSearch may be helpful when your topic is more focused to certain subjects or when doing an in-depth literature review. OneSearch does not have the advanced search features of some databases, like PsycINFO.

    How do I use OneSearch?

Enter your keywords into the search box on the Library's webpage or go to http://onesearch.capital.edu.
You will get LOTS of results! Don't be scared!
Use the limiters on the left sidebar to focus your results by date range, full text, or specific collections.

    • The CU & OhioLINK Catalogs option will limit to only items in those catalogs.
    • The CU & OhioLINK Catalogs & Databases option will limit to only items in those catalogs and to the databases to which we subscribe.

If you do not see a PDF or HTML full text link, use the "Search for Full Text" link to search for full text in another database.
If you are unable to connect to full text or request an item from OhioLINK, use the InterLibrary Loan form.

    Remember ...
OneSearch does not cover all the databases to which the Library subscribes. Certain databases are not indexed within OneSearch so you should always search them separately.
