Under the direction of Professor Mark A. Baker, the Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop concentrates on all aspects of vocal stagecraft ranging from audition techniques to full productions of operatic and musical theatre works.

Class work includes regular instruction on performance techniques, song and role preparation, and visual as well as vocal expression. Students give weekly, video-taped recitals, critiqued by themselves, their peers and their instructor in a nurturing, positive environment. In addition, a variety of theatrical arts such as make-up, ballroom dance, and stage combat are studied under the watchful and expert eyes of working professionals.

Each year the workshop also mounts fully staged productions – ranging from Sondheim to Strauss – giving a wide range of opportunity and experience to our undergraduate students. You can find Capital students and Capital graduates on the Broadway stage and on concert and operatic stages around the country.
