Capital University to Debut Men's, Women's Lacrosse in 2014
Capital University will add men’s and women’s lacrosse as varsity sports beginning in the 2013-14 academic year, director of athletics Steve Bruning announced.
Games for both teams are set to begin in the spring of 2014. All home matches will be played at the institution’s 3,000-seat Bernlohr Stadium.
“After extensive discussion and research, we’ve decided to add men’s and women’s lacrosse programs at Capital,” Bruning said. “Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, and we believe the sport will bring new opportunities to enhance the student-athlete experience, both on and off the field, at Capital.”
The addition of men’s and women’s lacrosse will bring the school’s total number of sponsored intercollegiate sports to 20. Capital is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III.
